Anyone who has paid close attention to Las Vegas recently has noticed an influx of celebrity chefs and their restaurants into Sin City hotels these past few years. From Thomas Keller at the Venetian to Joel Robuchon at the MGM to Alessandro Stratta at Wynn Las Vegas, along with Alain Ducasse (Mandalay Bay), Guy Savoy (Caesars), and Michael Mina (Bellagio/MGM)--it's safe to say that Wolfgang Puck and Emeril have gotten some serious competition here. Practically almost every hotel has a top chef on staff (ok so maybe not Hooters).
Coupled with a thriving nightlife in the form of nightclubs and lounges that serve up the latest trends in cocktailing, the new crop of Las Vegas restaurants have made the city a bona fide culinary destination. If that's not enough to convince you then how about this? Las Vegas has one of the largest number of wine cellars and the some of the best sommeliers...in the world. People have to be eating some good food to go with all that fine wine.
So when the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority wanted to host an event that would showcase the town's culinary culture, Bon Appétit magazine came up with a four day "uber-foodie weekend", as the mag's business development director Amy Foster calls it, from May 17-20 featuring some of the top chefs on the strip.
